Monitoring Progress and Attainment
Each teacher plans their work according to the needs and abilities of each child and they continuously monitor and assess them by talking to the children, marking, testing, observing and asking questions, adjusting their lesson plans accordingly. We involve both pupils and parents in this process so that everyone is aware of the child’s progress and targets.
Setting Targets and Assessment Tasks
We formally assess children regularly to track their progress and to assess any difficulties. Each child has targets for literacy and numeracy and Foundation Stage (Reception) children are assessed using the Foundation Stage Profile.
Pupils at the end of Year 2 and Year 6 are formally assessed using national SATs (standard assessment tests) and by teacher assessments. Pupils are also assessed at the end of Years 3, 4 and 5 using the optional SATs tests. Assessment results are used to write the end of year reports and inform future planning and action plans.
